Building is a process that revolves and evolves around conversations. The more care is taken in considering all aspects and persons involved, the better the result will be. Whether you are looking to start a conversation or would like me to join into one, please feel free to get in touch.

The folks that have been coming to the New Scenic Café for a long time certainly remember the tiny, tiny old entryway. As part of a major investment into the building owner Scott Graden wanted a much more welcoming entry space, and tapped his North House Folk School connections to have it be timber framed.

It is a reasonably simple frame with four posts and two king-post-trusses at the gables. These trusses carry the parallel cord ridge truss that support the common rafters.

One of the major challenges was a turnaround of three weeks from ‘go!’ to raising. Thanks to timber in stock at Hedstroms mill in Grand Marais that was possible.
