Northwoods Cabin

This timber frame was designed in collaboration with CRBPS architects, starting from a floor plan. Both floor plan and frame evolved to suit the wishes of the clients. The frame is essentially divided into three bays: Living and Kitchen in the front, a a stairs and chimney bay, and bedrooms and bath in the rear. The somewhat unusual thing about this frame is that there are two rather different framing arrangements in the front an rear bays.

The footprint of the main cabin is 25 feet by 36 feet with an upstairs in the back half of the frame.
A more conventional framing style with tall posts and vertical plates in the rear.
A less conventional form of roof framing with canted posts and purlins in the roof plane for the great room and kitchen space.
A long crane day.

The frame is of white pine, stained with tinted Heritage Natural Finishes oil. The high efficiency enclosure is achieved with SIP’s. Tongue and groove paneling will cover the walls and slide in behind the posts.
